Proyek oVirt Menarik Banyak Dukungan

Canonical, Cisco, IBM, Intel, NetApp, Red Hat dan SUSE akan berbagi tool manajemen lingkungan virtualisasi untuk membantu evolusi proyek oVirt. oVirt akan menjadi lapisan manajemen stack virtualisasi yang sepenuhnya open source yang berbasis Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM). Inisiatif ini ditujukan untuk membuat platform virtualisasi terintegrasi yang akan meberikan salah satunya high availability, live migration guest dan manajemen storage. Rilis resmi pertama dijadwalkan akan dilakukan pada bulan Januari 2012.

oVirt awalnya dikembangkan dalam konteks Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. Proyek ini mendapatkan pendanaan dari Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA) pada bulan Mei tahun ini. Tujuan OVA adalah mengembangkan ekosistem diseputar KVM.

Rilis openSUSE 11.3 RC1

Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts, the touch down area is in sight and we do have clear view and smooth weather conditions in general. So we expect a smooth landing for the release of openSUSE 11.3 on July 15, 2010. Let’s polish and fine-tune openSUSE 11.3 now. Get the RC1 from our software portal right now. As usually the most annoying bugs are listed here. But at least till release time coolo couldn’t find more then one bug in this category. Good sign towards a great release in July. Have a lot of fun!

Rilis openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 6

Milestone 6 (M6), a snapshot of the Factory ‘work in progress’ build, leading up to openSUSE 11.3 release in July, is now available for download. M6 is the first release during the ‘Stabilizing Freeze’ – focus has transitioned away from the inclusion of new features and applications toward increasing stability and usability. To that end, 162 bugs were resolved during the M5 – M6 time frame. Updates: the ‘radeon’ video driver has superseded ‘radeonhd’, providing KMS/DRI support; using the ‘radeon’ video driver on an Atom-based system no longer causes graphical corruption; CUPS 1.4.2 now works properly on 64-bit systems….

The fourth of seven scheduled milestone releases for 11.3 was completed and released on schedule. Milestone 4 focuses on switching to upstart as init daemon. Here’s what you may find interesting in the new release: OpenOffice.org has been updated to 3.2.1 Beta1 with new features; NetworkManager has been updated to version 0.8 with fixes to better support Bluetooth and GSM; CUPS has been updated to version 1.4.2, it adds over 67 changes and new features, including improved Bonjour/DNS-SD support; the conntrack network filtering system has been added; the Mono stack has been updated to the bug-fix release 2.6.3 together with MonoDevelop 2.2.2….

Rilis openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 3

The third of seven scheduled milestone releases for 11.3 was completed and released on schedule. Milestone 3 focuses on using GCC 4.5 as the default compiler, leaving a great deal of the work in the hands of the openSUSE Build Service after a few issues (such as kernel panics) were resolved. Here’s what you may find interesting in the new release: a bug in Milestone 2 prevented mounting of encrypted home folders – this has been resolved; zypper can now interrupt PackageKit, via D-Bus, eliminating a major annoyance during updates and additional installs; a Milestone 1 issue with starting X.Org on i915 hardware has finally been resolved….
