Troy Dawson mengumumkan ketersediaan Scientific Linux 5.5, varian Red Hat Enterprise linux yang dikompilasi dari source code RHEL dan diberi tambahan paket piranti lunak ekstra, driver hardware dan fitur khusus lainnya:

Scientific Linux 5.5 has been released for both i386 and x86_64 architectures. We have added gnuplot 4.2 as well as the iwlwifi 6000 ucode (firmware). The upstream vendor has also added FreeRADIUS 2 and PostgreSQL 8.4, as well as updated OpenOffice.org to 3.1.1. Scientific Linux release 5.5 is based on the rebuilding of RPMs out of SRPMs from Enterprise 5 Server and Client, including Update 5. It also has all errata and bug fixes up until the morning of May 18, 2010.

Tru Huynh mengumumkan end of life CentOS 3 pada tanggal 31 oktober 2010. hal ini sejalan dengan End-of-life Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 yang merupakan upstream CentOS. CentOS menggunakan kode sumber Red Hat Enterprise Linux (minus trademark Red Hat) dalam pengembangannya. Kalau anda masih menggunakan CentOS 3, disarankan untuk mengupgrade ke versi CentOS yang lebih baru agar tetap mendapatkan update perbaikan bug dan keamanan secara kontinu.

End Of Life Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3

Red Hat mempublikasikan pengumuman yang mengingatkan pengguna Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 bahwa RHEL 3 mendekati masa akhir produk / End Of Life (EOL) yang akan jatuh pada tanggal 31 oktober 2010. Notifikasi enam bulan ini sesuai dengan kebijakan dukungan perbaikan Red Hat terhadap RHEL 3 yang berarti setelah tanggal 31 oktober 2010 tidak ada update lagi, termasuk update keamanan dan perbaikan kritikal, dilakukan pada RHEL 3. Red Hat menyarankan pengguna untuk melakukan upgrade ke versi terbaru. Red Hat Enterprise Linux yang memiliki support selama 7 tahun. Jika pengguna melakukan migrasi ke RHEL 5 misalnya, maka mereka akan mendapat dukungan hingga 2014.
