On behalf of the Nexenta project, I’d like to announce the availability of the Nexenta Core Platform 3.0 RC2. The main changes over the RC1 release include dozens of ON fixes backported to OpenSolaris b134 and bug fixes. Features: based on OpenSolaris build 134+ with backports and fixes from later releases; ZFS deduplication support; Crossbow support; over 13,000 packages in the repository; based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS repository; includes latest APT, GCC, Binutils, Coreutils, Perl, Python, Ruby, Qt and GTK+ libraries; SMF support added for server applications like Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Exim; 100% native Debian environment, easy to upgrade, easy to use; includes apt-clone which brings ZFS power to apt-get.

The main changes over the beta 2 release include dozens of ON fixes backported to b134. This is a beta release, and a (slow) moving target until we reach the final release. It is in a good shape for developers to tinker with and we welcome your efforts to improve NCP3. Please file bug reports/RFEs here. Features: based on OpenSolaris build 134; first release with ZFS deduplication support; Crossbow support; over 13,000 packages in the repository; based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS repository….

The main changes over the alpha 5 release include: move from OpenSolaris b133 to b134; nexenta-on-source changes; bug-fix list (libm.a is missing; libusb, libuuid missing a pkg-config file; profile.dpkg-dist leftover after installation; rsync daemon enabled by default; problem with libgcc1 version mismatch; libsunw-perl short description typo; keyboard layout not set; user created during install is member of group ‘staff’; Squid fails to install; 3.0a4 – installation fails on unpartitioned USB stick; cupsys init script tries to load Linux kernel module ‘lp’….).
