Rilis Parted Magic 4.9

Patrick Verner telah mengumumkan rilis Parted Magic 4.9, distribusi Live CD/USB minimalis berbasis Linux dengan berbagai macam koleksi utiliti partisi hard disk dan penyelamatan data :

Parted Magic 4.9. Although this is mostly a bug-fix release, some other major changes were made. People didn’t like that we were using Chrome, so we switched to Chromium. All the old IDE drivers were removed from the kernel and only the new framework is used now. The major difference most people will notice is that devices that used to be labeled /dev/hd* will now be /dev/sd* and all CDROMs will be /dev/sr*. Three new programs were added – mhdd, elinks, and zsync. Some changes were made to the kernel configuration and initramfs so Virtio hard disks could be used to boot Parted Magic. The fstab daemon was also fixed to support Virtio hard disks. Many other small fixes were made to the network scripts and the system in general.

Rilis Lubuntu 10.04 Beta 1, Ubuntu rasa LXDE

Julien Lavergne telah mengumumkan ketersediaan rilis beta pertama Lubuntu 10.04, sebuah varian non-resmi Ubuntu yang menawarkan desktop environment ringan LXDE sebagai desktop default :

Lubuntu ‘Lucid Lynx’ beta 1 released. New stuff since alpha 3: new logo; addition to the seed – gnome-disk-utility and simple-scan. Specific Lubuntu changes: new PCMan File Manager 2 and libfm; Lubuntu artwork with new logo; LXSession 0.4.3; LXTerminal 0.1.7; auto-start GNOME authentication (for polkit support); fix for blurry shut-down icon from elementary icons; don’t auto-start print applet. Known bug: if you test on a USB, the first screen will freeze for a moment when you click on ‘Try Lubuntu’ – just wait, it will continue as normal. If you want to create a bootable USB system, please use the USB Creator directly on Ubuntu.

Rilis CrunchBang Linux 10 Alpha 1

Philip Newborough mengumumkan ketersediaan rilis alpha pertama CrunchBang Linux 10. Distribusi ringan yang menyajikan desktop Openbox dan XFCE. CrunchBang saat ini berbasis Debian GNU/Linux dan bukan Ubuntu.

The first alpha release of CrunchBang 10 is now available. Code-named ‘Statler’, this release is, for the first time, built using Debian sources. The alpha 1 is available to download in two main flavours, those being Openbox and Xfce. Both the Openbox and Xfce editions currently feature the same line-up of applications and the new Xfce edition has had its session set-up to mimic that of previous CrunchBang Openbox sessions.
